High-Risk Behavior Prevention Program for 5th & 6th Grade Primary School Students | GREEK SOCIETY OF ADOLESCENT MEDICINE
The YOUTH POWER Program
Manual Synopsis for the Youth Power Program
This manual presents the Youth Power educational program, which constitutes a comprehensive intervention for the prevention of high-risk behaviors and is addressed to children in early adolescence. Its pedagogical and scientific framework is based on the Life Skills Development model and the principles of Social & Emotional Learning.
Through an experiential approach, this program aims to help participating 5th and 6th-grade students acquire knowledge regarding a wide range of high-risk behaviors, such as addictive substances & addictive behaviors (smoking, alcohol, gambling addiction), high-risk online behaviors, and school bullying. At the same time, it provides them with the opportunity to practice and acquire skills that will psychologically shield them against the aforementioned challenges.
Youth Power includes properly tailored materials, not only for the educators-coordinators who will implement it, but also materials suitable for students (student workbook) and parents.
The “Youth Power” manual for the educator-coordinator consists of two parts. The first part presents the theoretical background of the program along with its rationale, objectives, and content. The second part provides analytical instructions for the experiential workshops in a way that minimizes preparation time for the educator, while offering all the necessary theoretical and practical information to ensure they feel competent and secure in implementing the program.
